Our Challenge
There’s an upper limit of how many people we can have on the trail at one time… too many and we harm the trail. We figure that number is around 300.

The Marathon Shuffle is unique and awesome. More people would like to participate than we can accommodate.

How to equitably decide who gets to participate?

First come, first served is fair. Having a waitlist is fair. But what about the people who do the behind the scenes work?

Our Solution
Offer priority access to people who help the Sunshine Coast Trail and/or the Marathon Shuffle in the year leading up to the event. (1 April 2024 – 30 March 2025)

VIPs (Very Important People)

  • have spent ten (10) hours or more building/maintaining the Sunshine Coast Trail and/or huts
  • have spent ten (10) hours or more helping with the administration of qPAWS or the Marathon Shuffle
  • provide products or services worth $500 or more (sponsor) to qPAWS or the Marathon Shuffle
  • otherwise contribute to the success of the Sunshine Coast Trail and the delight of its users

Selection
There are up to 100 VIP applications available. All applications received between 1 April 2024 and 30 March 2025 will be considered by the selection committee on a first come, first served basis.
