Sunshine Coast Trail Gets New Signage Helping Visitors Find Their Way

New trail signs help visitors find their way

PRPAWS is working together with Tourism Powell River (TPR – the Visitors Info Centre on Joyce) to help make Powell River even more visitor friendly. Most of us know of course how to get round and about – it comes natural to us having been here for some time or all our lives – but for someone arriving here for the first time it can be challenging to find all the amenities we’ve got hiding behind all these gardens, all these trees all over town, all these trees from the beaches up to the alpine back country. How on earth can you find all these ‘wowsome’ nuggets?

Tourism Powell River successfully proposed a signage project in two phases to the Regional District and the City of Powell River which both agreed to contribute an equal share to make this signage project a reality. And so Phase One is proceeding with a variety of signs going up around town, at ferry terminals at Little River, Earls Cove and Powell River, in front of the visitors bureau, and in the coming months in Lund and Texada.

PAWS is in the process of putting up signs on major trailhead accesses that show sections of the Sunshine Coast Trail in the vicinity of where the trail cuts across a logging road or is accessible from the main roads. Each sign has a “You Are Here” arrow that points to the place where you are actually standing and looking at the map.

TPR hired Dan Tatham for project manager and he has been very busy organizing the myriad jobs that need to be done to bring everything to successful fruition. Thank you to the many individuals and organizations, especially the City and the Regional District, who are contributing so much and generously, helping make this project a reality. The signage will not only be appreciated by visitors, but also by new residents and many long-time inhabitants as well. Thanks.
